‘Justice For Hina’: Woman’s Death In Rawalpindi Sparks Murder Probe And Public Outcry

RAWALPINDI: Police have launched a murder investigation after a 45-year-old woman, Hina Javed, was found dead inside an apartment in Rawalpindi, with her family alleging that she had suffered repeated domestic abuse before her death.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), Hina was found in the bathroom of a second-floor flat at Askari Apartments in Rawalpindi’s Lalkurti area on Thursday morning. Her brother, Fahad Javed Malik, said in the police complaint that the family rushed to the apartment after receiving an early-morning call from her father-in-law informing them of an emergency.

Found With Hands Tied Behind Her Back, Mouth Gagged, A Wire Around Her Neck

The family alleges that she was found with her hands tied behind her back, her mouth gagged and a wire around her neck. Malik has accused Hina's husband, Faisal Asghar Imam, along with his father, Asghar Ali Fayyaz, and a domestic worker, Zeeshan Arshad, of involvement in her death. He also alleged that his sister had complained of physical and psychological abuse during her marriage. Hina had married Imam in November 2025. According to her brother, tensions and alleged abuse had persisted during the marriage. The FIR further alleges that Imam had subjected her to repeated violence and had also allegedly abused a previous wife.

Fahad further accused Faisal Asghar of having tortured and physically abused Hina in the past. He said she had filed for divorce because of the alleged abuse.

In-Laws Claimed Robbery, No Signs Of Break-In

Hina’s family says her in-laws initially claimed that a robbery had taken place. However, guards at Askari Villas reportedly told police that there were no signs of a break-in. The family says the in-laws later claimed that Hina had been killed by a domestic helper during an attempted robbery. However, nothing was taken from her, and she was still wearing her gold bangles.

Police have registered the case under Sections 302 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code, relating to murder and acts committed by several individuals with a shared intention. Investigators have collected evidence from the apartment, while Hina’s body was shifted to Benazir Bhutto Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

During questioning, the domestic helper allegedly confessed to killing Hina along with her husband, according to Hina's family. He reportedly told police that Faisal had paid him Rs 100,000 to carry out the murder and that the killing had been planned four days earlier.

There was an outpouring of anger against the alleged perpetrators, along with widespread support for Hina Javed and her family, on social media.

CM Maryam Nawaz Urged To Help Bring Culprits To Justice

Hina’s brother and renowned academic Shahram Azhar urged Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to ensure that the culprits are brought to justice.

According to one social media post, Faisal Asghar Imam was a teacher at NUST and had allegedly been harassing female students for more than a decade.

"Doctor Faisal Imam was a teacher at NUST. He was harassing female students for over a decade. I personally know his victims."

Police officials said the investigation was continuing and that no arrests had been made at the time of reporting. The case has also drawn attention on social media, where calls for a transparent investigation and justice for Hina Javed have intensified.
