KARACHI, Pakistan Businessman and philanthropist Anosh Ahmed has taken another step in addressing one of Karachi’s most pressing challenges: access to clean and reliable water. Through his foundation, two submersible water pumps have been installed in underserved neighborhoods of the city, bringing daily relief to nearly 200 people. The first submersible pump was installed in Sector 11-H, near Saint Joseph Church. To provide a sustainable solution, the bore was drilled 350 feet deep with an 8-inch diameter. Smaller 5-inch bores often fail within a short period and cannot be repaired, while the larger design allows for future maintenance and part replacement. The full installation included a 1,000-liter water storage tank, two collection faucets, and proper plumbing for safe and hygienic distribution. The project was inaugurated in a modest ceremony led by Rev. Fr. Warrior Wilson Gorey, who offered special prayers for Anosh Ahmed and his late father. Residents expressed heartfelt thanks, emphasizing that the pump will improve health, save time, and reduce the heavy burden of purchasing water.
The second pump was placed in Al-Madina Colony, Sector 11 of Orangi Town, a Muslim neighborhood where municipal water is supplied just once a month for a few hours, leaving families unable to meet their needs. Many households were forced to buy water at a cost of PKR 1,500 per month a significant expense for low-income families. With the installation of the new pump, residents now have daily access to clean water. This reduces monthly expenses, improves household routines, and gives parents more time to focus on education and livelihood. Community members shared their appreciation, noting that the project has brought immediate relief and a sense of hope to the neighborhood.
