Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto: The Visionary Leader Who Shaped Pakistan's Future

Centuries later, history will teach about the one man who revolutionised the political landscape of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Now, the new generation has the sense and sensibility of right and wrong, although some are still misguided like they were back in the 1970s when the renowned leader was taken down by the dictator and tortured in jail until his last hearing. The people of Pakistan who were living under the hardship of martial law there were arbitrary regulations implemented by the dictators. Elites were given every right to live they could redeem themselves while the ordinary were treated as if they had no right to live. Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, a man who had a strong faith in serving people, was born on January 5th, 1928. He was a phenomenal being, a visionary leader, and a brilliant mind.

The two-nation theory of Muslims & Non-Muslims was the talk of the town in the subcontinent, but in this country, the two-nation theory was not about religion it was about democracy and dictatorship, equal rights vs favouritism. Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the originator who spoke out for the constitutional state, was from the Sindh province. The first one to stand with middle-class people, he considered them the backbone of the society, the first one who considered everyone equal in jurisdiction.

After independence, Bangladesh which was known as East Pakistan, provided a range of gains to Pakistan, like cultural diversity, economic growth, agricultural growth, etc. but the dictatorship discriminated against them and they were sexually harassed, and physically molested, they didn't mind their bodily privacy, many were killed and it was tragic for them. This was the destiny of Pakistan and East Pakistan back in the tyranny of General Yahya.

In 1971, Shaheed Bhutto was serving as the Prime Minister of Pakistan, while addressing the UN General Assembly, he was handed a note from the delegate, which contained some objections to his statements.

His biggest achievement was introducing the atomic bomb, he said, " We (Pakistani) will eat grass and even go hungry but we will make an atomic bomb". Today, Pakistan has atomic power all thanks to Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto

Shaheed Bhutto, in a bold stroke, tore up the paper and said "I will not accept any paper from anyone!" This act was seen as a historic move for Pakistan's sovereignty and freedom. The incident became iconic and is often attributed as an example of Shaheed Bhutto's courage and defiance in the face of adversity.

In December 1971, for the first time in the history of Pakistan, a fair election happened and people elected Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto as their prime minister. His slogan was for the people of Pakistan, the basic human needs, "roti, kapra aur makaan", which translates to, "food, clothing and shelter". In his premier, he visited India and signed a Shimla Pact, with the PM of India, Miss Indira Gandhi, in this pact, both countries agreed to release the prisoners from previous wars, both negotiated peace and called for the ceasefire at the LOC in Kashmir. Shaheed Bhutto also recognised Bangladesh as an independent state and enhanced good relationships with other nations. He introduced good terms with the Middle East and also hosted the second Islamic Summit Conference in 1974 at Lahore where all the renowned Muslim leaders around the world like Yasser Arafat (Palestine), King Faisal (Saudi Arabia), Muammar Gaddafi (Libya), Saddam Hussein (Iraq) and many others participated. After this conference, the Muslim countries built a strong relationship with each other.

He also introduced a strong constitution, describing equal rights for every citizen of Pakistan, he reformed the society in a mystical manner, introducing educational reforms which included free education until intermediate, scholarships, introduced new academic institutes, education for all, and increased pay for teachers. He was behind the electoral reforms, too. He advocated for the right of people to vote, a fair election that everyone deserves. His biggest achievement was introducing the atomic bomb, he said, " We (Pakistani) will eat grass and even go hungry but we will make an atomic bomb". Today, Pakistan has atomic power all thanks to Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. He inaugurated the Steel Mills on December 30, 1973, and made it a national industry.

His dream was to make Pakistan a country where everyone was getting equal rights, proper education, and a better healthcare system. He gained a household name globally, everyone was paying tribute to this legendary man. Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was a charismatic leader, utterly handsome, with unwavering self-confidence, and profound wisdom. He exchanged vows with the prettiest lady from Iran, Begum Nusrat Bhutto, basically from Isfahan. She stood firm with his better half and endured hardship with a brave heart. Together they gave up everything for this country, for a peaceful Pakistan. Today, Pakistan is an independent state, everyone has equal rights, and we have the freedom of speech, this is all because of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. Now his legacy is serving the nation with great courage and determination for the future of Pakistan.
