PTI Approaches LHC Against JIT In Hooliganism Cases
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has approached the Lahore High Court (LHC) against a joint investigation team (JIT) established to probe cases filed against the party leaders over the alleged murder of party worker Ali Bilal alias Zille Shah, attack on law enforcement agencies, and hooliganism outside Imran Khan’s Zaman Park residence in March.

The plea was submitted by as many as 11 PTI leaders, including Imran Khan and Fawad Chaudhry, through their lawyers, Sikandar Zulqarnain and Zafar Iqbal Mangan. The Punjab government and the Home Department are now parties to the lawsuit.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders said that ten unfounded and fabricated charges had been filed against them by the police and that the Punjab home secretary had formed the joint investigation team at the request of the provincial government. They claimed to be completely ignorant of the specifics of the cases brought against them.

They said that they had witnesses and evidence in the case involving Zille Shah's death, and they pleaded with the high court to revoke the notice on the formation of the investigative team.

A day prior, the joint investigation team had called Imran Khan, Fawad Chaudhry, Hammad Azhar, Ejaz Chaudhry, Musarrat Jamshed Cheema, Farrukh Habib, Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed, Mian Aslam Iqbal, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, and others to give testimony in the cases.

At the Lahore CCPO headquarters on Wednesday, all the leaders were requested to appear before it.

When the joint investigation team was called to record the statement the last time, only Asad Umar from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf showed up.

The six-member JIT's convener is SSP Imran Kishwar, while SP Aftab Phulawan is also a member. The team consists of three individuals that work for the Military Intelligence, the Inter-Services Intelligence, and the Intelligence Bureau.

At the Racecourse and Shadman police stations, cases have been filed against PTI leaders.
