Pakistani security forces have successfully intercepted and shot down an Indian drone near Walton Airport in Lahore on Thursday morning, amidst escalating tensions between the two neighbouring countries. The drone, reportedly laden with explosives, was neutralised before it could reach its intended target, preventing potential casualties and damage.
Residents in the Walton Road area reported hearing multiple loud explosions, leading to widespread panic and the sighting of smoke plumes. Police sources confirmed that the drone, measuring approximately 5 to 6 feet, was being remotely operated from across the border and was brought down using electronic jamming techniques.
This incident follows a series of similar events, including the downing of another Indian drone in Chakwal earlier today. Additionally, Pakistani forces have reported shooting down multiple Indian drones and fighter jets over the past 48 hours in response to recent cross-border hostilities.
In light of these developments, several key air routes in Lahore and Sialkot were temporarily closed for commercial flights due to prevailing regional tensions. Flights were rerouted to ensure passenger safety.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has condemned the recent Indian attacks, stating, "We will avenge the blood of our innocent martyrs," following reports of civilian casualties from Indian missile strikes in Punjab province and Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
