Daily Dunya (04 December 2017) quoted General (r.) Pervez Musharraf as expressing his opinion that there was no need for democracy in Pakistan. According to the report, the former President is of the view that democracy and the Constitution can be sacrificed for the state (riyasat).


High-stakes cricket?


A dispute over a cricket match in Lahore led to firing between rival groups of young men. Daily Dunya (04 December 2017) reported that three of the young men were injured in the process.


Kaira draws a line


According to Daily Jang (04 December 2017), the PPP’s Qamar Zaman Kaira asked whether Imran Khan wanted to make a New Pakistan (Naya Pakistan) alongside the Taliban. He added that he and his party did not want a New Pakistan created through an alliance with Sami-ul-Haq.


How far he’d go…


PTI chief Imran Khan was quoted by Daily Jang (04 December 2017) as saying that Nawaz Sharif was willing to get help from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in an effort to save the money made through corruption.


Good old uniform


It was reported by Daily Dunya (05 December 2017) that the Punjab police would return to their old uniform of a black shirt and khaki pants through a notification that will be issued in March 2018. The report stated that officers and men had been uncomfortable with the newly introduced olive green outfit.


Dairy horror


A standing committee for national health in the Senate revealed, according to Daily Dunya (06 December 2017) that 60 percent of samples of milk taken from Islamabad were found to be harmful to consume.


Nawaz’s questions continued


Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was quoted by Daily Dunya (06 December 2017) as asking why it was that dictators and judges alike chose to grasp the neck of Prime Ministers, and not of others?


Preparations


Daily Express (08 December 2017) reported that Imran Khan assured Tahir-ul-Qadri of support for the latter’s campaign over the Model Town incident. Khan asked that his container be kept ready and that PTI activists be ready to move.


‘For his own good?’


According to Daily Express (09 December 2017), singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan chose not to receive an award in London after unidentified individuals (na-maaloom afraad) shouted slogans outside his Lahore farmhouse, warning him against the event. According to the report, they felt that the event was unacceptable because it was arranged by a particular religious group.


Maulana rests his case


Maulana Sami-ul-Haq took the view that the rulers are standing with Israeli aggression in the context of President Trump’s support for Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. According to Daily Express (10 December 2017), Maulana Sami-ul-Haq went on to enquire from those who would like to make jihad dependent on the permission of an Islamic state as to which state they now expected an announcement of jihad from.


The Birds


It was reported in Daily Express (10 December 2017) that in the Punjab Assembly, the PTI’s Malik Taimur Masood highlighted the fact that meat for birds of prey continued to be sold in Lahore’s streets – and that the low flights of these birds were resulting in attacks on citizens.
