More third-force?
Daily Nawa-i-Waqt (20 Feb 2017) reported that former president General (retd.) Pervez Musharraf, commenting on the situation of the MQM, stated that he was not content to be sitting outside Pakistan in Dubai (sakoon nahin). He went on to state that he was looking to join good politicians with himself and operate as a third force (teesri quwwat) in Pakistani politics.
Trump: poor hearing or poor geography?
According to Daily Nawa-i-Waqt (21 Feb 2017), US President Donald Trump in his fear and suspicion of Muslims confused the Pakistani town of Sehwan, in Sindh, with the country Sweden – thereby making an erroneous reference to incidents of terrorism in that Scandinavian country.
The Maulana’s optimistic assessment
Daily Nawa-i-Waqt (22 Feb 2017) quoted Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman as saying that because of the CPEC projects, 36 countries are siding with Pakistan. He went on to predict that by 2030, the country would emerge as a superpower.
Storm of bad behaviour?
Minister for Railways Saad Rafiq was quoted by Daily Express (24 Feb 2017) as saying that Imran Khan’s arrival in politics had led to a storm of misbehaviour (bad-tameezi) and slander (bohtaan tarashi). He went on to claim that the PTI chief had fought the whole Panama court case in the field of politics, and thus introduced a culture of abuse (gaali), and this had adversely affected the youth.
Hotel Raid!
Daily Jang (24 Feb 2017) reported that police in the Factory Area, Lahore, raided a hotel and arrested 11 men and 9 women, including a thanedar of the police.
Attaturk’s disciple?
According to Daily Jang (24 Feb 2017), Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during his tour of Turkey visited the grave of Mustafa Kemal Attaturk – starting out with breakfast at his hotel lobby, then walking half a kilometre by foot and eventually climbing several dozen steep steps.
Modi’s inspiration
According to Daily Nawa-i-Waqt (24 Feb 2017), the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, is not inspired by a human but by a donkey. Responding to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav’s comments about how he feared donkeys from Gujarat, the Prime Minister stated that the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister might be afraid of donkeys, but he (Modi) learnt from this loyal and hardworking animal. He went on to state that just like a donkey serves its master loyally, so too he (Modi) was a loyal servant of his masters, the Indian people.
The House always wins?
Daily Express (26 Feb 2017) reported that a heavy contingent of police in Kasur raided a group of gamblers (jawari) and arrested many including the Chairman of the local Union Council. The police reportedly seized the sums of money which had been bet, as well as cellular phones and vehicles.
Abid Sher Ali’s revenge?
The PML-N’s Abid Sher Ali was quoted by Daily Express (26 Feb 2017) as saying that Imran Khan had conducted a trial of their elders (buzurg) and that now every PML-N party worker would take the PTI chief by the collar (gireban).
