Policemen want free burgers
According to Nawa-e-Waqt (May 16, 2016) police beat up a restaurant owner in Gujranwala and shut down his shop when he asked them to pay for the 15 burgers they had ordered. An assistant sub-inspector (nikka thanedar) became angry (seekh pa) and showered slaps on him (thapron ki barish). Policemen told the newspaper it was nothing new for them to eat free burgers from that shop.

Laborer can’t send his 22 children to school
Reported in Jang (May 16, 2016) a laborer in Sargodha has 22 children from a single wife. Not one of them goes to school because he says he can’t afford to educate them. He says the government should give him financial aid.

How to get rid of donkeys
Quoted in Dunya (May 17, 2016) MNA Sheikh Fayyazuddin said during a session of the National Assembly that there are too donkeys in Pakistan. If they are exported, the country would get rid of them (jaan chhootay gee) and also make money. Trade Minister Khurram Dastagir Khan promised to consider the advice.

According to Express (May 17, 2016) German delegates were impressed when they heard Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif speak Deutsch during a meeting about iron ore reserves in Chiniot. They said they had heard he was fluent in the language but were pleasantly surprised (khushgawar hairat) to hear him speak.

Suspicious drone over Lahore airport
Dunya reports (May 18, 2016) security forces caught a suspicious drone flying over Lahore airport. They had not been able to figure out who was controlling it and why.

All cranes at Gwadar port are out of order
According to Nawa-e-Waqt (May 18, 2016) every single one of the cranes installed at Gwadar port are out of order. China has promised to fix them in three months, and bring two new ones in June.

Brawl at PTI rally
Two groups of PTI began to fight each other (tasadum) before the party’s election campaign rally in Muzaffarabad, reports Nawa-e-Waqt (May 19, 2016). The brawl involved uninhibited use of (azadana istamaal) kicking, punching, throwing chairs at each other, beating each other with sticks and verbal abuse (galam galoch).

Shoe shock at Lahore airport
Reported in Jang (May 20, 2016) a Japanese businessman of Pakistani origin complained that officials at Lahore airport ruined his expensive shoes when they checked their soles using ice picks. In the rest of the world, shoes and other such items are scanned. He said the officials were rude to him (badtameezi) and ridiculed him (hatak-aamez rawayya).

Raja Riaz and the PTI
According to Express (May 21, 2016) former PPP leader Raja Riaz, who has recently joined PTI, was able to push his way to the stage (dhakkam pail) during their Faisalabad rally, but when he got there, some people chanted ‘Lota! Lota!’

Laila versus Nargis
Reported in Dunya (May 22, 2016) a scuffle broke out between famous actresses Laila and Nargis after a show in Lahore. Other actors had to intervene to stop the fight. Laila alleged that Nargis fights with all the girls who get a good response from the audience.
