Bride robs groom
Reported in Dunya (June 15, 2015) a bride in Multan tricked her groom on the very first day (chakma day kar) and ran away (ghayab ho gayee) with Rs 100,000 and jewelry. When the police raided her house, it was locked.
Benazir Income Support scam
Express reports (June 15, 2015) a gang in Akhtarabad sends out hundreds of text messages every day telling people they have won Rs 25,200 (inaam nikal aya hai) under the Benazir Income Support Program. They take money from them and run away.
Murdered boy turns out alive
Reported in Jang (June 16, 2015) an 11-year-old boy who two men had confessed to have murdered turned out alive. The boy had run away from home. His parents filed an abduction report. When police caught a suspect and tortured him (tafteesh ka riwayati tareeq-e-kaar), he said he had murdered the boy and thrown his body in a canal. Police found the boy’s clothes from the canal and declared him dead. They also arrested a second suspect, and the two men were being tried for murder.
Megha’s Facebook account hacked
According to Nawa-e-Waqt (June 16, 2015) someone has hacked film star Megha’s Facebook account. She says she will make a new page to stay in touch with her fans.
10-year-old fined for ‘illicit affair with married woman’
A jirga in Sindh found a 10-year-old boy guilty of an illicit relationship with a married 30-year-old woman, Dunya reports (June 17, 2015). The boy’s family has been told to pay the woman’s family Rs 700,000.
Jameeluddin Aali is alive
According to Jang (June 17, 2015) the Senate presiding officer has apologized to famous Urdu scholar Jameeluddin Aali for calling him deceased (marhoom), and wished him a long, healthy life. The Senate secretariat had sent a letter to Aali’s family and asked for his pictures and documents for a parliamentary museum.
Campaign against fasting in China
According to Jang (June 18, 2015) the Chinese government began a campaign with the arrival of Ramzan to stop the Muslims of China from fasting. It has barred politicians, students and teachers in Xinjiang from fasting, and ordered that the restaurants in the region bordering Kazakhstan stay open.
Moon sighting stage breaks down
Reported in Nawa-e-Waqt (June 18, 2015) the stage that was built to sight the Ramzan moon in Karachi broke down. The religious scholars almost fell down.
8-year-old accused of abducting landlord
Express reports (June 19, 2015) Gujrat police has filed a case against an 8-year-old boy for abducting a 30-year-old landlord. They have been making raids to arrest him, but the boy is hiding.
Man beaten up by four ex-wives
Dunya reports (June 20, 2015) a man who has married six times (shadiyon ka shoqeen) was beaten up (chhitrol) by his four divorced wives in court, where he had arrived to file a case against the brothers of his 17-year-old newest wife, who he says were harassing him to force him to divorce her.
Beggars attack Nankana Sahib
With the arrival of Ramzan, beggars have set up camp in Nankana Sahib (dairay daal liye), reports Express (June 20, 2015). They include men, women and children. Some women beggars are also pickpockets.
Rs 20,000 for 210 units of electricity
Reported in Nai Baat (June 20, 2015) in a case of over-efficiency (phurtiyaan), a house in Faisalabad was sent a Rs20,000 electricity bill for consuming 210 units. The family was shocked (sakta tari ho gya) and say the meter reader was trying to cover line losses.
