“Watch out, Gullu’s!”
Daily Nawa e Waqt (19 Sep 2016) reported that PTI leader Imran Khan reiterated plans for his party’s protest against the Nawaz government at Raiwind. He said that Raiwind is not the hereditary fiefdom (jaagir) of anyone, and that if the Gullu’s (plural of Gullu Butt) get in the way, they would face a beating from party youth.
The spectacle
Daily Jang (19 Sep 2016) quoted Daniyal Aziz, member of the National Assembly from the ruling PML-N, as saying that PTI leader Imran Khan gives lectures on morals but encourages party workers to use violence. He went on to say that Khan seeks to put on a spectacle (tamasha) but then himself becomes the spectacle.
Not a day for dogs…
Daily Jang reported (20 Sep 2016) that district authorities in Lahore targeted a total of 200 dogs in an operation that spanned various localities of the provincial capital.
“Can we stop using English now?”
The Lahore High Court dismissed a petition for placing restrictions on the use of the English language. Daily Jang reported (21 Sep 2016) that the petitioner requested that the use of English in government departments, schools and colleges of Punjab be discontinued until the relevant court decides about the implementation of a decision to promote the use of Urdu for official purposes throughout the country.
“Lunacy, but…”
Daily Dunya (24 Sep 2016) quoted analyst Haroon-ur-Rasheed as saying that only a lunatic (junooni) could wage nuclear war, but that Pakistan should remain prepared for any unforeseen eventuality (na-gahaani soorat-e-haal).
More master-spy pigeons?
Daily Dunya (24 Sep 2016) reported that Indian authorities have caught yet another pigeon and accused it of being a Pakistani spy. The newspaper stated that according to Indian officials, some numbers were also written on the wings of the pigeon, and investigations remain underway.
“Leave or else…”
Daily Express reported (24 Sep 2016) that a nationalist organisation, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) in the Indian state of Maharashtra, gave Pakistani artists 48 hours to leave India. If they fail to leave, the MNS would take matters into its own hands and expel them.
“If you value your uniform, let us go!”
Daily Express reported (24 Sep 2016) that when patrolling police in Chichawatni stopped a suspicious motorcyclist who was not in possession of a valid license. The motorcyclist called his accomplices via cellular phone, who arrived at the scene and attacked the police officials on the scene, ripping their uniforms and threatening them with dire consequences.
“Remember that beating?”
The Ameer of the Jamaat e Islami, Siraj-ul-Haq, was quoted by Daily Express (25 Sep 2016) as saying that if India attacks, it will forget the beating it received in 1965. Addressing a youth festival organised by the womens’ wing of the party, he said that the world community should try to restrain India instead of watching the spectacle.

Daily Express (25 Sep 2016) quoted senior politician Javed Hashmi as saying that Indian extremists have put out a bounty of Rs. 1 crore for the Prime Minister of Pakistan, but Modi’s head is not worth even one takka. Addressing a convention of writers, he said that if India attacks Pakistan, the former will be broken into 20 pieces.
