Two renowned veterans from the law fraternity tried their best to pressure Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial into issuing a certain decision during today's hearing, but the efforts failed, according to journalist Ajmal Jami.
Without naming these individuals, Jami said that many had predicted a different outcome of the hearing today. "They were under this impression that it will be all over, but that didn't turn out to be the case."
In a podcast on Friday, Jami said that sanity prevailed today, as there seemed to be more room for a wise decision-making.
"The two legal minds wanted the decision to be otherwise, and they, as per a source, met the CJ and sent messages for him to influence him."
The journalist revealed that it isn't the first time that the duo sought to influence CJ Bandial regarding his verdict.
"Hats off to Chief Justice, who did not cave, and dealt with the matter with sagacity, especially during the past few hearings. He simply didn't accept pressure from any side," he maintained.

Earlier today, CJ Bandial said that the top court would not "sit idle" with regard to its decision for election on May 14 if the talks failed.
He observed that negotiations would only take place “if both the parties were interested”, and expressed displeasure over the two sides' “lack of interest” for a substantial dialogue.
The top judge reminded the court that the apex court had given time to the two political parties to see if they agree on a date for polls.
While reiterating that the court will uphold the Constitution, CJ Bandial adjourned the proceeding, saying an appropriate order will be issued later.
Today's hearing was seen as a way to allow the parties more time to reach a mutual opinion and take the matters of the election forward, and resolve the issue once and for all.
