Responding to an Instagram user who was unhappy that she had prayed for the slain ‘non-Muslim’ singer, Sidhu Moose Wala, ‘Pasoori’ singer Shae Gill clarified that she was Christian and not Muslim.

After the recent passing of singer Sidhu Moose Wala, Pasoori singer Shae Gill was one of many celebrities offering her condolences, which seems to have irked a social media user who believed that as a ‘Muslim’ Shae shouldn’t have been praying for non-Muslims.

Shae took to her Instagram stories to share a screenshot of the DM, and said that she had been been receiving many such messages.

“Just wanted to inform everyone that I am not a Muslim,” she said, adding, “I am a Christian, belong to a Christian family and can make prayers for people from different religions.”

Following this revelation, the tone of the messages shifted. Sharing to her Instagram, Shae said that most of the messages she was getting now were ‘heartwarming’, adding that she wouldn’t have made the announcement of her faith in this manner, but, “I got sick of people thinking they could police me by that standard.”

However, not everyone took to the faith announcement kindly, as Shae also began to receive some hate messages. Saying that she would be blocking anybody who sent her the kind of messages she showed in a third screenshot, she confirmed that she does read all her messages whenever she gets the time.

Even though Shae Gill ended up clarifying that she was a Christian, praying for someone who passed away, regardless of their religion, shouldn’t be that big an issue. The mistaken notion that Muslims can’t pray for non-Muslims is antithetical to the Islamic traits of tolerance and empathy, and if anything, it serves to further the religious divide in the country.

Stop making strawman arguments. The only thing Muslims are saying is that we cannot pray for the forgiveness of non Muslims in next life as we believe there is none.

Everyone is sad over the murder.

Everyone accepts praying for nonMuslims is allowed. Just not in the case they die.
