Members the Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT) reportedly attacked a peaceful student demonstration at the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) campus earlier today (Monday), injuring at least 18 students.
Videos on social media purportedly show IJT members converging on a group of seated students, hitting students with rods. Other videos show students punching and slapping.

It is shameful how jamiat goons are liberated enough to attack peaceful marchers and students of IIUI. The injured students also include members from @ProgStudentsFed.
Even now, IJT gets a free hand to terrorize students in different universities

The goons of Islami Jamiat Tulba has attacked a peace march organised in IIUI. State should immediately intervene and #RestoreStudentUnions, so that the culture of violence which is due to the hegemony of #IJT can be neutralized.

The Progressive Students Federation (PRSF), Islamabad/Rawalpindi reported that the students were protesting for better facilities at their university.
PrSF condemns the unprovoked attack of IJT members on councils members and students of Islamic University. The attack was launched by IJT goons during a peace walk today to demand better facilities. 18 students have been injured so far #IJTattackedoniiuistudents pic.twitter.com/3qR5Tf0ndB

Other reports claim that the students were protesting against harassment from the IJT, before they were attacked by the same group. The PRSF claimed that the IJT has been allowed to regularly ‘terrorize’ other students on campus.
Members of @ProgStudentsFed IIUI were among those injured in the attack by the Jamiat mob today for nothing other than demanding an end to harassment of students by IJT members. Clear video evidence exists of the attack being completely unprovoked.#IJTattackedonIIUIStudents pic.twitter.com/p0GP445Hj2

Members of the IJT have previously caused conflict on campuses across the country. In December 2021, members of the IJT were accused of ‘ransacking’ the registrar’s office at Punjab University. At an earlier incident in August 2021, two students of Punjab University were injured in an attack from IJT members.
