According to Daily Jang (13 March 2017), Rana Sanaullah referred to Imran Khan as a relu-katta of politics. He went on to say that Khan could organise demonstrations, rallies or cat-walks – nobody would stop him.
Bad time for the donkeys of Narang Mandi…
Daily Jang (13 March 2017) reported that some 44 donkeys were stolen from six villages in the Narang Mandi region. Their meat and hides were taken and the skeletons were later left to be found in a graveyard.
Airborne antics
Daily Dunya reported (13 March 2017) that a flight to Jeddah had to be returned to Lahore due to the severe disturbance created by a passenger on board. The passenger, from Sheikhupura, reportedly began shouting that his wife had passed away, upon which the pilot returned the aircraft to Lahore – where investigation revealed that his wife was alive and well but that he missed her and could not bear to be away from her.
Ambitions
According to Daily Dunya (13 March 2017), Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif was quoted as saying that it was his mission to make the healthcare system in Pakistan superior to that in the Western countries.
“First things first…”
Daily Dunya reported (15 March 2017) that General (retd.) Pervez Musharraf demanded security from the Ministry of Defence, in order to appear for court hearings in Pakistan. The judge in the relevant Anti-Terror Court remarked that the former President ought to return to the country first, and then orders for his security could be issued.
Give love a chance?
It was reported by Daily Dunya (15 March 2017) that in a hearing regarding the ‘love marriage’ (marriage by choice) of a couple, the Lahore High Court permitted the married pair to go in peace. This, however, proved highly unacceptable to the family of the girl, who resorted to violence. As both sides descended into punches, kicks and slaps, the court became a battlefield.
Ding dong!
Senator Aitzaz Ahsan was quoted by Daily Express (15 March 2017) as saying that whatever the outcome of the Panama case might be, it will remain a bell hung on the neck of the Sharif family, and it will keep on ringing.
Vigilant maulanas
According to Daily Dunya (16 March 2017), Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman was quoted as saying that these were trying times (aazmaish) for religious quarters in the country. He went on to say that ulema play the role of watchmen (chowkidars) for Islam in the parliament.
Sheikh Rasheed’s grim forecast
Sheikh Rasheed was quoted by Daily Express (16 March 2017) as saying that either the PML-N or the law (Noon ya Qanoon) – one of the two will have their funeral soon. He further said he hoped the funeral is for corruption.

It was reported by Daily Nawa-i-Waqt (19 March 2017) that leaders of political parties, ulema and traders at the Nazriya-e-Pakistan Conference in Islamabad vowed to continue a country-wide movement against the efforts to make Pakistan ‘liberal’.
