Reported in Dunya (July 4, 2016) when Marvi Memon gave Rs 150 to a beggar in Sukkur, he tore up the money and threw it away, saying they weren’t enough (dairrh so rupay say kya hota hai).
Thousands in hospital after Ramzan overeating
According to Nawa-e-Waqt (July 4, 2016) the people of Lahore broke all records of unhealthy eating in the last week of Ramzan. More than 2,000 people were admitted to the city’s hospitals because of stomach related illnesses in one day.
Pakistanis have more money in Swiss banks than Indians
Pakistani citizens now have more money in Swiss bank accounts than Indian citizens, according to Express (July 5, 2016). With 1.5 billion Francs stashed in Switzerland’s banks, they are at number 69 in the list of highest depositors by nationality. Indians are at number 75.
Man jailed for flight turbulence scare
Reported in Dunya (July 5, 2016) reacting to turbulence during a Dubai-Birmingham flight, a British man of Pakistani origin declined to sit down and put on his seat belt. He got up and started chanting Allahu Akbar, scaring all the passengers. He has been sentenced to 10 weeks in prison.
Theft at Talal Chaudhry’s apartment in Parliament Lodges
Jang reports (July 5, 2016) burglars broke into famous PML-N lawmaker Talal Chaudhry’s apartment in the Parliament Lodges in Islamabad’s red zone, and stole hundreds of thousands of rupees in cash and two watches. A large contingent of police arrived at the scene and began investigation. Mr Chaudhry was in Faisalabad at the time of the incident.
Policeman declines reward for returning lost money
According to Express (July 6, 2016) a policeman declined reward money for returning Rs 13,000 to a trader in Nankana who had dropped it while putting it in his pocket.
Rs 142,000 for 68 units of electricity
A labourer in a village near Faisalabad passed out when he was billed Rs 142,000 for consuming 68 units of electricity, reports Jang (July 6, 2016). He told the newspaper his usual monthly bill is Rs 500.
Embarrassing warning for daredevil bikers
According to Dunya (July 9, 2016) Dolphin Force cops in Lahore made two boys hold their ears through their legs (murgha bana diya) and do squats (uthak baithak) after they were caught doing motorcycle stunts. The boys were allowed to go when they promised never to ride dangerously (tobah karwai).
Mufti Qavi gets extra attention at Eid prayers
According to Nawa-e-Waqt (July 9, 2016) several worshippers took selfies with Mufti Abdul Qavi after he led the Eid prayers in Multan’s Langay Khan Bagh, while others shouted ‘Go Mufti Go’.
Woman locks secret lover in trunk
Reported in Nawa-e-Waqt (July 10, 2016) a married woman hid her suspected secret lover in a trunk (sandooq) after her in-laws were suspicious. The man couldn’t breathe and died.
