Beaten up for teasing women
Nawa-e-Waqt reports (December 5, 2015) a man was teasing women (chairr-khani) outside a mosque in Lahore. The people of the neighborhood caught him and beat him up, and then took him to the police.
8 booked for using army chief’s picture on election posters
Reported in Nawa-e-Waqt (November 29, 2015) eight contestants in the local council elections in Liaqatpur were charged with violating public order, for using Army chief Gen Raheel Sharif’s photograph on their campaign posters. Two of them were from the PML-N, one from the PTI, and five were independent candidates.
Chaos at PTI rally
According to Dunya (November 30, 2015) when Imran Khan did not arrive at a PTI public rally in Karachi, party workers became angry and threw eggs and stones at the stage. The leaders on the stage had to hide behind the rostrum and sofas, and some left. Several people were injured in an ensuing chaos. Imran Khan was meanwhile at a breakfast at his friend’s house in Defence, and ate Nihari and Halwa Puri.
Misdiagnosis at Nandipur power plant
Express reports (December 1, 2015) engineers at the controversial Nandipur Power Project spent four days looking for a malfunction in the boiler. The plant didn’t run for four days. When they tried to turn it on, it worsened the problem. The malfunction was eventually found in the gas turbine.
Pakistani hackers threaten to eradicate Hindus
Pakistani hackers took control of the website of an Indian city’s traffic police and placed disrespectful pictures of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on it, Dunya reports (December 2, 2015). They threatened to eradicate Hindus from the face of the earth if the killing of Kashmiri Muslims did not stop.
Man busy on cellphone run over by train
Reported in Jang (December 2, 2015) a 42-year-old man was run over by train that he couldn’t hear coming because he was talking on his mobile phone. People tried to warn him but he could not listen to them either, because he was talking hands-free.
Imran Khan slaps party worker
According to Jang (December 3, 2015) when a PTI worker tried to climb on the stage during a rally in Karachi, Imran Khan slapped him (thaparr raseed kar diya). Someone filmed the incident and it went viral on social media.
Khurshid Shah cross with town officials in Sukkur
Nawa-e-Waqt reports (December 3, 2015) during a trip to his home town Sukkur, opposition leader Khurshid Shah scolded local officials for not cleaning the streets. When he saw that drinking water was polluted, he lost his temper (dimagh ka fuse urr gya). He tried to slap a Water Board official, but when he saw reporters, he had to control his anger (ghussa pee gaye).
10,000 transgenders boycott local elections in Karachi
Reported in Dunya (December 4, 2014) a group of 10,000 transgenders boycotted the local elections in Karachi. They said the mainstream political parties ignored them in their manifestoes.
Probe against pilot who invited Rehman Khan into cockpit
According to Express (December 5, 2015) the government has ordered an inquiry against a pilot who allowed Rehman Khan into a cockpit on her trip to Lahore. A PIA spokesman said she had requested to see the cockpit, and the pilot couldn’t say no.
