‘Women should be forced to marry at 35-40’

Responding to a call for sterner punishment for sex offenses against minor girls, JUI-F’s Hafiz Hamidullah said their should also be a law to forcibly marry unwed women of ages 35 to 40, reports Nai Baat (October 23, 2014). Women senators from both sides of the aisle walked out of the house in protest.
DJ Butt startles PTI with bills

According to Jang (October 23, 2014) DJ Butt, who handles music and sound in Tehrik-e-Insaf’s rallies, charged local party officials Rs 2.7 million for the sound system in their Gujrat protest (bill thamaya). The officials were startled (sar pakar kar reh gaye).
‘Two PTI ministers pay extortion money to Taliban’

Quoted in Dunya (October 24, 2014) Senator Zahid Awan says two Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ministers from the PTI pay extortion money to the Taliban. That is why the militants do not target the party.
Bridegroom’s family locked in wedding hall for lying about caste

Reported in Nawa-e-Waqt (October 25, 2014), a fight broke out at a wedding in Hafizabad when the bride’s family found out that the bridegroom had lied about his caste. His family had said they belonged to the Sheikh caste but they were actually Ansari. The bride’s family then asked for Rs 500,000 in dowry (haq meher). The bridegroom’s family refused. The bride’s family locked the guests up in the wedding hall and said they would not let them go until they paid for the wedding dinner.
Mamnoon Hussain becomes Manmohan Singh

Reported in Jang (October 25, 2014), a convocation event was held at the government-owned Pakistan Institute of Development in which the president was the chief guest. Invites for the event called him Manmohan Singh instead of Mamnoon Hussain.
Hotels were buying dead horse and donkey meet

Dunya reports (October 26, 2014) the Lahore district administration raided a compound after reports that people were selling dead animal meat to hotels. They found dead horses and donkeys in the compound. One person was arrested and another fled.
Public outcry follows Israel stall at Islamic University

The Islamic International University in Islamabad is investigating why a stall representing Israel was set up at a model United Nations debate, says Jang (October 26, 2014). It featured Israel as a peaceful and prosperous country (amn-o-khushhali ka gehwara), rubbing salt into the wounds of the oppressed Palestinians (zakhmon pe namak-pashi), and angering political and religious circles (gham-o-ghussay ki shadeed leher).
Imran Khan rejects Meera’s proposal again

According to Dunya (October 27, 2014), Imran Khan rejected yet another marriage proposal by actress Meera. The message was conveyed to him by a party member during a core committee meeting of the PTI. Imran Khan said no, and laughed so much he had tears in his eyes.

Famous actress disappears in Canada

Reported in Nawa-e-Waqt (October 29, 2014) actress Komal Naz went to Canada with a troupe of artists. All the actors returned to Lahore, but Komal Naz disappeared in Canada.
