Sibling quarrel ends in gunfight between rivals
Jang reports (June 27, 2016) 11 people were injured in a gunfight that broke out when two siblings began to fight over who would give out rice to the poor. One of the brothers began to shoot at his brother with his gun, injuring passersby, who then brought their own guns and injured other passersby as well as a rival group. Batons and sticks were also used.
Political workers wrestle it out in Bagh
Reported in Dunya (June 27, 2016) when a PPP rally in the Bagh town of Azad Kashmir reached a street where the PML-N was having a public meeting, workers of the two parties began to chant slogans against each other. Then, they began pelting stones. The situation soon came to pushing and shoving, finally ending in a fight in which they kicked and punched each other without restraint (laaton, mukkon aur ghoonson ka azadana istamal). Several workers were injured in the clash.
Saudi-bound Sheikh Rasheed in a selfie with air hostesses
According to Nawa-e-Waqt (June 28, 2016) on his way to an Umrah pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, famous politician Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed took a selfie with three air hostesses. The photograph has become popular on social media, and people and making interesting comments (dilchasp jumlay kas rahay hain). Sheikh Rasheed denies it was deliberate. He was sleeping when someone woke him up and took the picture.
Juice seller flees raid locking customers in the shop
Express reports (June 29, 2016) when a district official raided juice corners in Sahiwal for serving food during daytime and violating the sanctity of Ramzan, one shopkeeper shut the place down and ran away, locking several male and female customers inside. The administration and the police did not find out.
Cops fight outside Punjab Assembly
Two policemen on security duty at the Punjab Assembly began to fight each other, according to Nawa-e-Waqt (June 29, 2016). A special branch cop had stopped a cash van and wanted to search it. A stationhouse officer standing close by told him he could not search a cash van. The special branch policeman held the SHO by the collar, and they began to swear at each other (galiyon ka tabadla), and there was a fight. Other policeman intervened and separated them, but they continued their verbal abuse.
Government employee shoots boss over promotion
Reported in Express (June 30, 2016) a Naib Qasid in Islamabad shot and injured his boss, a section officer, because he believed the latter would not give him a promotion and had chosen someone else. The suspect had recently taken an exam for the position of clerk.
90% doctors with foreign degrees fail Pakistani test
Of the 2,120 doctors with degrees in medicine from abroad, only 207 passed the Step-One exam held by the National Examination Board, Dunya reports (June 30, 2016). The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council president told reporters they would improve the test.
Commuter shoots rickshawala
Jang reports (July 1, 2016) when a rickshawala declined to take a passenger because he did not want to go to that particular destination, the commuter got so angry that he took out his gun and shot him. A case has been registered and the driver is in a stable condition. Police is looking for the suspect.
14-year-old Pakistani hacker in Google Hall of Fame
A 14-year-old Pakistani student has been made part of the Google Hall of Fame, not because he scored high in an exam, but because he used his hacking skills, Express reports (July 2, 2016). He did not know that his ethical hacking to bring out the weaknesses in security systems had earned him the honor.
Families of ‘love marriage’ couple brawl outside court
Reported in Nawa-e-Waqt (July 2, 2016) the families of a “love marriage” couple began to fight each other (gutham gutha) outside the Lahore High Court, after a judge acquitted the man in an abduction allegation. They rained slaps and punches on each other (thaprron aur ghoonson ki barsaat) until the policemen on security duty pulled them apart.
