2,000 phone SIMs found in garbage
Reported in Dunya (October 23, 2015) 2,000 used mobile phone SIM cards were found in a pile of garbage in Multan. The people of the neighborhood informed the police, who say they have been used to make local and international calls.
Foreign Office’s efficiency
According to Jang (October 23, 2015) in a display of efficiency (phurtiyan) the Pakistani foreign office released a joint communiqué on the meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and US President Barack Obama before the meeting had ended. The White House spokesman did not say anything.
Police leaves justice to God
Jang reports (October 24, 2015) when police were told someone entered a mosque in Khuzdar in their shoes and stole valuable electronic equipment, they said only God could hold such a person accountable (Allah poochay ga) and they could do nothing.
Snake in the selfie
Express reports (October 26, 2015) an attempt to take a selfie with a snake turned out costly for a man in Jalalpur Jattan (mehngi parr gai). The snake bit him and he died on his way to hospital.
Famous cleric joins ‘I don’t hate India’ campaign
Reported in Nai Baat (October 26, 2015) famous cleric and the president of Jamia Banoria in Karachi, Mufti Naeem, joined the ‘I don’t hate India’ social media campaign. He shared a picture on the internet, holding a sign that reads: ‘I am Mufti Muhammad Naeem. I am a Pakistani. I don’t hate India. I am not alone. There are many scholars like me!’
The poet and the PIA
When famous poet Anwar Masood arrived at Lahore airport from Karachi, he could not find his luggage, Dunya reports (October 27, 2015). He was on his way to the US and said there were important documents in the luggage, but the PIA administration was not cooperating.
Actors save Pakistan’s honor
According to Nawa-e-Waqt (October 27, 2015) Pakistan actor Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan protected Pakistan’s honor (laaj rakh lee) and declined to film love scenes in Indian movies. Mahira Khan declined to perform in vulgar scenes in her film with Shahrukh Khan, while Fawad Khan refused to appear in bold scenes with beautiful (khoobru) Indian actress Alia Bhatt.
Jamshed Dasti campaigns on donkey cart
Reported in Express (October 28, 2015) famous lawmaker Jamshed Dasti campaigned for the local council candidates he was supporting in Khangarh on a donkey cart. He drove the cart for three kilometers.
Ambassador speaks without mic because of load shedding
Nawa-e-Waqt reports (October 29, 2015) unannounced load shedding forced the Azerbaijani ambassador to speak without a microphone at the Directorate of Special Education. No alternate power arrangements had been made. The children were especially disappointed.
Fake Aisha Mumtaz turns out stage actress
According to Nai Baat (October 30, 2015) a woman who was caught impersonating famous Food Authority officer Aisha Mumtaz and asking restaurants for bribes turned out to be famous theater actress Falak Naz. She has performed on stage for a while and has also received money from the Punjab Government’s fund for artists.
