Pigeons and eggs
The PTI’s Firdous Ashiq Awan was quoted by Daily Jang (03 July 2017) as saying that the PML-N had lost the match when it came to the JIT, and that when asked about a pigeon (kabootar), the ruling party responds with an egg (anda).
“Be a Lion!”
Former president Asif Ali Zardari, referring to the Prime Minister advised ‘Mian Sahib’ to be a lion (sher banein); and that if there are conspiracies against the PM, he ought to endure them (bardaasht karein). It was reported in Daily Nawa-i-Waqt (07 July 2017) that he went on to say that Nawaz Sharif did not know how to run the country, and that the PML-N government had tried to copy from the earlier PPP administration, but that mimicry requires intelligence (naql ke liay aql ki zaroorat hai).
Be it Panama or Bey-nama
According to Daily Jang (04 July 2017), the Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif warned ‘enemies’ that regardless of Panama or Bey-nama (without name), the country would keep progressing.
Terrifying milk
Daily Jang (05 July 2017) reported that the Punjab Food Authority had caught a factory mixing fertilisers in milk that was meant for human consumption. Moreover, the Authority found that the factory used ghee, chemical fertilisers and urea for mixing in milk. In this context, some 450 kilograms of ghee, 270 sacks of fertilisers and 560 packets of chemicals were seized.
Sheikh Rasheed raises the alarm again
The leader of the Awami Muslim League, Sheikh Rasheed, was quoted by Daily Jang (05 July 2017) as saying that the PML-N had distributed batons amongst its workers for the occasion of Maryam Nawaz’s appearance before the JIT.
Trumped in Hamburg?
According to Daily Nawa-i-Waqt (08 July 2017), US President Donald Trump, on his tour of Hamburg in Germany, wanted to enjoy the weather but was unable to find a luxury hotel for his delegation – with all of them having been booked by delegations from other countries for the G20 summit there.
No invite for Kaptaan
Actress Meera, according to Daily Jang (03 July 2017), stated her preferences with regards to her potential wedding guest-list. She was quoted saying that she would invite Nawaz Sharif and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, but not Imran Khan, to her wedding.
Taaen taeen fishy fish?
Special Aide to the Prime Minister Asif Kirmani was quoted by Daily Nawa-i-Waqt (08 July 2017) as saying that Qatar was not located on Mars, for the JIT to be unable to reach it. He was further quoted as saying that without the testimony of the Qatari prince, the JIT report would be “taaeen taaeen fish”.
Of gamblers: the winners and the losers
According to Daily Express (08 July 2017), the Secretary-General of Pakistan Awami Tehreek, Khurram Nawaz Gandapur, expressed his view that the Prime Minister’s address to the country was that of a defeated gambler (haara hua jawari).
“Problems? What problems?”
The PML-N’s Rana Sanaullah, according to Daily Dunya (09 July 2017), stated that there was no need for any embarrassment on the government’s part, and that it would complete its term. He went on to state that there was no accusation on the Sharif family, and that he was not aware of any such accusations.
