HIV/Aids in Pakistan

HIV/Aids is a serious health problem across the world. According to a research study, most infected people with HIV/Aids are living in developing countries. These countries are suffering from poverty, hunger, diseases and lack of medical facilities. Unfortunately, Pakistan is included in the list of countries where HIV/Aids is infecting people. Pakistan’s population is almost 200 million, with an annual population growth rate of 2.03 percent. The UN estimates that the year 2003 was the only key year for Pakistan to battle against the disease. At that time, the virus was new for the country and spreading slowly. It was not difficult for Pakistan to eradicate HIV/Aids and protect thousands of lives. According to World Health Organization mortality rates for the disease have increased in Pakistan. On the other hand, death rates decreased by 1.5 percent between 2000 and 2013 across the world. It is said that prevention is the only solution. Everyone shares the responsibility of working towards it. Most importantly, it is the foremost responsibility of the government to use communication tools to raise awareness on HIV/Aids.

Justice for Anisur Rehman
Madam,
Anisur Rehman Soomro was 17 years old when he was killed in a police encounter. He was a student of class 10 and was arrested on June 12, 2104. His friends were with him on their way back from school when he was picked up by the police. When his father went to the police station, he was asked for Rs500,000. When he said he could not afford to pay this bribe, his son was taken to a refugee camp and killed along with four Taliban militants. Since that day, his family has been begging for justice for their child.

People believe that lawyers are the ones who can save and sustain the system of right, and doctors are the ones who can maintain the health system. But the clash between them broke the trust of the public. The planned attack by lawyers on PIC showed that no one can be trusted. Public property was destroyed by men in black coats over some provocation by our noble doctors. Resources of common people were attacked. Indeed, those were some dark images. It hurts that aged patients were forced to leave their rooms and some people died because they could not get medical aid. It is astounding to see educated people behaving like this.
