Leaders from the Arab League and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held a multilateral summit with U.S. President Donald J. Trump on Tuesday, 23 September, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly’s 80th session.
The summit, initiated by President Trump, was co-hosted by Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of Qatar. It brought together King Abdullah II of Jordan, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Türkiye, President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan, Prime Minister Moustafa Kamal Madbouly of Egypt, UAE Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.
In a joint statement, the leaders voiced support for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and stressed the need to release hostages, deliver large-scale humanitarian aid, and prevent forced displacement. They also agreed to work with the United States on a comprehensive reconstruction plan for Gaza, tied to Arab and OIC proposals, and underpinned by international assistance.
The leaders emphasised their readiness to cooperate with President Trump, describing U.S. leadership as critical to ending the conflict and opening the way for a lasting peace. They also discussed stabilisation efforts in the West Bank and Jerusalem, and backed reforms within the Palestinian Authority.
Officials attending the meeting included Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, and Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Sugiono. From the U.S. side, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and Middle East Special Envoy Steven C. Witkoff joined President Trump.
The summit was held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly’s 80th session in New York, where world leaders have been meeting for the annual High-Level Week. The Gaza conflict has dominated many of the discussions this year, with Arab and OIC countries intensifying diplomatic efforts to secure a ceasefire, prevent further displacement, and push for large-scale humanitarian aid.
President Trump convened the meeting as part of U.S. outreach to regional and Muslim-majority states, signalling Washington’s intent to play a central role in shaping post-war stabilisation and reconstruction plans. For Arab and OIC leaders, the gathering was an opportunity to present a united front on Gaza and reinforce their demand for a just and lasting peace.
