A protest rally against corporate farming and six new canals was organized by Awami Tehreek and Sindhyani Tehreek in Sanghi Pharo. Led by Advocate Vasand Thari, Dr Dildar Laghari, Mehran Dars, Mukhtiar Bikari, Jakhro Noohani, Suresh Kumar Bheel, Parshutam Kolhi, Akbar Memon, Lakhman Kolhi, and others, the rally demanded the abolition of SIFC (Special Investment Facilitation Council) and the repeal of the Board of Investment Amendment Act 2023.
Addressing the rally, Advocate Vasand Thari said that the issue is not just six new canals. In fact it is about restoring the Indus River’s flows, saving millions of acres of Sindh’s land from exploitative entities like the Green Corporate Initiative Pvt Ltd (a modern-day occupier akin to the East India Company), protecting Sindh’s mineral resources, and safeguarding its very existence, he declared.
He condemned the Shahbaz Sharif-led federal government, accusing it of colluding with the PPP to undermine the 18th Constitutional Amendment through the SIFC, effectively imposing a ‘One Unit’ system.
Institutions like the Council of Common Interests (CCI) are dominated by Punjab’s rulers, sidelining the interests of oppressed nations like Sindh, he added.
Thari highlighted how corporate farming under SIFC is displacing local farmers, with lands being handed to corporations. He also condemned the occupation of historic sites like Keenjhar Lake, Karonjhar Hills, Haleji Lake, and Gorakh Hill, calling the Board of Investment Amendment Act 2023 a black law designed to legitimize exploitation.
He further criticized the PPP’s role in misleading Sindhis with false statments about canals, asserting that the people of Sindh have rejected this deceit and will continue their peaceful struggle.

After that, in the form of a rally, the leaders paid tribute by laying a floral wreath at the final resting place of Sindhi Hari Tehreek leader Ramji Kolhi on the occasion of his second death anniversary. Following this, at a public gathering, central president Advocate Vasand Thari and other leaders said that Ramji Kolhi dedicated his entire life to the struggle for the rights of his nation and the working class. In the fight for Sindh’s national resources, he played a remarkable role.
