Confucius say …

Behind the scenes and in their usual Confucian way, reliable sources say, our evergreen friends have expressed their anxiety at the turmoil of Pakistani politics. For a people who adhere to the Confucian maxim, “Silence is a true friend who never betrays”, they’ve been unexpectedly vocal at a recent meeting on the New Silk Road. Whatever transpires, they’ve apparently said, we need continuity of economic policy and its separation from politics. In a way, the Bretton Woods institution that comes to our rescue every now and then, has said the same thing.

No can do

For all the conspiracy theorists who insist that the Adjudicators are marching to the tune of someone else’s band, here’s something to chew on. The band wallahs were keen on a judicial intervention to roll back Parliament’s assent to The Man of Steel remaining head of his party. No way, said the Adjudicators, according to our mole. No can do. “We can’t undo what Parliament has done”, was their forthright message to the band wallahs.

Tough questions

Although QJB’s interaction with the Senate has gone down well generally (pun intended), the wags are having a field day on the “tough questions” put to him by our brave Parliamentarians:

  1. How’re you feeling today?

  2. How’s the family? All well?

  3. Brilliantly polished shoes, who does them?

  4. Would you like an increase in your budget?
