Aamir Liaquat's Ex-Wife Claims Marriage Was 'Toxic And Abusive'
While responding to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA Aamir Liaquat’s statement denying divorcing her, Syeda Tuba Anwar has said that she had legally divorced Liaqat and suggested that her relationship with her ex-husband was 'toxic and abusive'.

In an interview on Friday, Liaquat said that he still considered Tuba his wife, as he does not believe in khula.  He said that although the courts had granted her a divorce, Tuba was still his wife by the rules of sharia.  He further claimed that if Tuba remarried, it should be considered a form of adultery.

"I respect Tuba, I never remember her in bad words, even today if she wants to come, the doors are open for her," he said.

Similarly, 18-year-old Dania Shah, who is Liaquat's third wife, said she would welcome Tuba into their marriage. "She is like my elder sister," she said, adding that if her husband is happy, she is happy.

In response, Tuba took to Twitter to make her views on the matter known, including allegations that her marriage to Liaquat had been abusive.

"I wish to reiterate that I chose to divorce my ex-husband through the court system, as per my constitutional right as a Pakistani Citizen," she wrote, adding that her divorce was granted in accordance with the laws of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

"I also urge the Islamic scholars to speak up for women who choose to exercise their rights in accordance with the Sharia and Pakistan’s constitution," she said.

"Islam permits women to seek divorce if the marriage is no longer working. Taking a graceful exit from a toxic and abusive marriage is a right and not a sin."
