Passing the buck

We hear the top khakis are miffed with The Man of Steel’s Talented Bro and with Hubby for “not taking ownership” of their anti-terrorism initiative. Our mole in the recent Apex Committee’s meeting in Karachi reports that General Bobby was appalled when he was told that the planned counter-terrorism unit was non-existent. Apparently, he asked that a notification for the creation thereof be issued immediately. And so it was, there and then, and the proof presented to Bob in the midst of the meeting. Sources say some important arrests have also been made in the Land of Five Rivers but that as far as Talented Bro & Co are concerned, they’d rather keep it all under the radar. The khakis want the civilians to step up and take ownership, educate the public about the arrests and the whys and wherefores of it all. The khakis and the civilians are also passing the buck to each other regarding that mother of all evils, old Hafiz’s group. Apparently, the khakis want arrests in that quarter and the civvies are saying their past and present “handlers” should do the handling.

Good & bad

The good news is that The Great Khan’s new begum has been a positive influence on him and helped him bury the hatchet with the country’s largest media group. Our mole reports that in conversation with some representatives of the group, she lived up to her media credentials and expressed the view that it was a pointless boycott which should end without demur.

The bad news is that another new begum, of an ageing feudal lord until recently associated with The Man of Steel, has been comprehensively placed in purdah and forbidden any manner of public appearances. They say the young woman is chaffing at the bit, and may bolt before long.
