A fifth-semester student at the University of Lahore died on Saturday after jumping from the third floor of a campus building.
The student was enrolled in the Faculty of Pharmacy and was an out-station student from Kamalia residing in a hostel. According to preliminary information, he had been under stress due to ongoing issues at home.
Following the incident, the student remained under medical treatment until 7 pm, when he succumbed to his injuries, despite false reports circulating on social media claiming he was still alive.
After the incident, multiple accounts began circulating among students regarding the circumstances leading to his death. Some students speculated that academic pressure may have played a role, claiming that the student had low attendance and was allegedly not allowed to appear in an examination. However, the university administration has categorically denied these claims, stating that no such restriction was imposed.
Another claim circulating on campus suggested that the student was shifted from the university’s on-campus medical facility to the General Hospital. University officials clarified that the transfer was carried out in line with standard medical protocol, as neurosurgical facilities were available at the General Hospital, with which the University of Lahore has a formal agreement.
The university has constituted an inquiry committee to investigate the incident. According to officials, the committee is scheduled to meet on Monday and will examine all aspects of the case before submitting its findings.
The funeral of the student was conducted earlier this morning in his hometown, with family, friends, and community members gathering to pay their respects and mourn his untimely passing.
