Nasser Ahmed Sommro, Pakistan’s tallest man, passed away on Monday evening at his residence in Shikarpur, Sindh. He was 52 years old.
Standing at an extraordinary height of 7 feet 9 inches, Sommro gained national and international recognition for his towering stature. He became Pakistan’s tallest man following the passing of Zia Rasheed in 2024. Born in 1973 in Shikarpur, he was admired for his participation in social, cultural, and sporting events.
According to his family and close friends, Sommro had been battling multiple health issues, including lung disease and respiratory complications. Despite rumors about his death in 2019, he had dismissed them through media appearances.
Sommro represented Pakistan in international events and served as a sports ambassador at a sports event in Taichung City, Taiwan. His active participation in social and charitable initiatives earned him multiple awards from various organisations. He was also known for his appearances in comedy series alongside actors Ali Gul and Sohrab Sommro.
Following his passing, condolences poured in from various circles. Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif expressed his grief and extended sympathies to Sommro’s family in a statement issued from the PM House in Islamabad.
Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah has also expressed condolences to the bereaved family. While his close friend 7-footed Zafar Iqbal Sommro also expressed his sadness.
People from different walks of life have also mourned his loss, remembering him as a kind-hearted individual who made significant contributions to society.
