Lest we forget
On April 10, 1988, death and destruction rained down on Rawalpindi and Islamabad when Ojhri Camp exploded. Located in Pindi’s densely populated Faizabad area, the place was used as an ammunition depot for the Mujahidin fighting Soviet forces in Afghanistan. The explosion, a result of rockets and other munitions going off, killed nearly 100 and wounded 1,100 according to the New York Times, but the toll was much higher, and was kept secret. It was said that the explosion was the work of the pro-Soviet regime in Kabul, but there was also speculation that the explosion was done by locals to cover up pilferage of the weapons stocks, including Stinger missiles. Among those killed was Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s father Air Commodore (retd) Khaqan Abbasi whose car was hit by a flying missile while he was on his way to Murree. The PM’s brother, Zahid Abbasi, a young man in his mid-20s was also in the car and was injured after which he went into coma and artificial respiration, dying 17 years later. The PM’s friends say that his personal austerity comes from this event, when he was 30, which changed his life.
Only lonely
So, when AG that brave Waziri girl came out with her sexting allegations, she pointed the finger not only at The Great Khan but also at his media man. The latter claimed he had honourable intentions, wanting to marry her because he was lonely. When the matter was discussed within the party, a leading member criticised the media man for acknowledging his actions and advised him to tweet that his account had been hacked. The media man, in his naivete did so, which again led to howls of protest, which led to an intra-party fight and feud!
