Stonewalled
In a shameful display of cowardice, the private channel that was host to the fracas between the mad maulvi and Marvi, is shirking its responsibility and not helping the investigation. Readers will recall that there was a nasty altercation and threat of violence on a television talk show earlier this month, when rights activist Marvi critiqued the prescriptions of our venerable ideology council. The maulvi, who was sharing a platform with her, lashed out, hurled abuse, and threatened violence. The program quickly degenerated into a frightening display of bullying by the maulvi, and much of it had to be cut. Marvi was within her rights to lodge a case against him but the terrified Islamabad police quaked in its shoes, resisting the registration of a criminal case, until they were nudged into compliance by the powers-that-be. Now we hear the police are doing their best to collect evidence but are being stonewalled by the private channel that hosted the program. Apparently, the channel is not allowing its employees to give evidence; this includes the anchor of the show and the cameramen who were doing the recording.
Return of the prodigal
Our mole says the late, lamented Big Ben’s Hubby is planning to return to the Land of The Pure next month. Hubby departed hastily when the Lone Rangers went on a law-enforcing spree and picked up a close buddy of his, who’s still in the slammer. The case against the buddy is, amongst other things, of aiding and abetting the now out-of-favour Quaid-e-Qiwam. Lest we forget, millions of dollars worth of arms (some say as much as USD 32 million) were imported into the city by the sea in the last year of Mush’s reign. The accusation is that they were imported into the city via Hubby’s buddy – but then, as in the case of the Father of Our Bum, is he just the fall guy?
Hubby’s connected friends are advising him to stay put, and not to return. They’ve told him that he and his sibling might end up in the slammer too.
