In a dramatic turn of events, Khawaja Tareef Gulshan, better known as Teefi Butt and the prime suspect in the murder of Ameer Balaj Tipu, was killed during a police encounter in Rahim Yar Khan on Saturday. According to the Crime Control Department (CCD), Butt was fatally shot by his own accomplices during an armed confrontation in the Kot Sabzal area.
Police sources revealed that Teefi Butt was under police custody and was being transported from Rahim Yar Khan to Lahore when his associates ambushed the police convoy. The attackers reportedly opened indiscriminate fire, forcing law enforcement officials to return fire while attempting to regain control of the situation. Amid the chaos, the gang succeeded in freeing Teefi Butt from custody.
Following the ambush, police units immediately launched a pursuit operation, resulting in a fierce gun battle between the assailants and law enforcement officers. During the exchange of fire, Teefi Butt was struck and killed by bullets allegedly fired by his own accomplices. The police later cordoned off the area and initiated a comprehensive search operation to locate and apprehend the remaining members of the gang.
Officials confirmed that a police constable, identified as Noor Hassan, sustained injuries during the crossfire and was promptly shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Teefi Butt’s body has been moved to the district morgue for post-mortem examination.
The CCD spokesperson stated that efforts are underway to trace and arrest the fugitives involved in the ambush. “We are conducting multiple raids across the region to ensure that the entire network behind the attack is dismantled,” the spokesperson added.
Teefi Butt had recently been extradited from Dubai to Pakistan after being arrested with the assistance of Interpol. A Dubai court had approved his transfer following his consent to return and face murder charges in Lahore. He was the key suspect in the killing of Ameer Balaj Tipu, son of the late Lahore figure Tipu Truckanwala.
The high-profile murder case was registered at Lahore’s Chuhng Police Station, and a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) had been formed to probe the incident. Another accused in the case, Aqeel Butt alias Gogi Butt, had already secured interim bail.
