“Chicken isn’t meat!”
Our mole reports that The Man of Steel served several vegetarian delicacies to PM Narendra Modi when he visited the former at home in Lahore last month. PM Modi apparently tucked into sarson ka saag and makai ki roti with gusto, especially since it was cooked in desi ghee. It was a far cry from almost 20 years ago when a famous Indian journalist visited The Man of Steel, having informed him beforehand of his vegetarian preference, and being served nothing but chicken with spinach, chicken with daal etc. And when the journo ate only roti and chutney, a disappointed Man of Steel said, “but I thought chicken wasn’t meat”.
Substantial presence
Despite denials from on high, sources within the government have revealed that Daesh has developed a substantial presence in Pakistan. While the authorities made light of the crackers that went off at various television stations, the same inside sources say it was definitely the work of Daesh and its affiliates. We’ve also learnt that “hundreds” of people have been arrested by the agencies and that many amongst these detainees are “affiliated to universities, either as teachers or administrators”. So, it’s no good sweeping the Daesh issue under the carpet. It is very present in Pakistan.
Quick fix
Taking the lead from activists in Isloo, Karachi’s artistic advocates of improved governance have painted portraits of the octogenarian who has Sinned on the road, next to broken manholes. Captions saying, “fix this”, also adorn the portraits. We hear the Sinned Octogenarian’s response to this protest was not, indeed, to “fix it” but to “fix” the poor official who’s in charge of the city’s thoroughfares. Why, he is supposed to have demanded, were my portraits not erased forthwith? He could’ve asked why the broken manholes weren’t fixed, but he didn’t.
