Surfing the net
A reliable source says that the Karachi police recently bought Rs 2.5 million worth of phone tracking and tracing equipment. The multinational sellers of the equipment gave three police officers state-of-the-art training overseas to work the equipment. All this to fight the disorder that has assailed the city, and to tackle the lawbreakers who hold Karachi to ransom. The phone tracking machines were installed with great expectations but before they could yield results, the trained officers were posted out one by one to other police areas and departments. Our mole reports that the expensive equipment is now lying unused in air conditioned, spanking new offices. The new officers who’ve replaced the trained ones are said to be totally at sea and are using the equipment to surf the net and while away their time.
Shown the door
We hear the former guv of the bank of the state was shown the door in no uncertain terms. Our mole reports The Man of Steel’s Dar-ling did the needful and the guv tried to hang on, saying he was tenure employee. He is reported to have argued that he had only nine months to go and that it would be unseemly for him to quit before the expiry of his term. Apparently, Dar-ling insisted that he wanted his own team; the former guv insisted that he was a neutral professional and would take the government’s policies into account. Dar-ling held firm and the guv eventually read the writing on the wall and said his goodbyes.
Great & glorious
The Taliban’s chosen negotiators have great and glorious antecedents, as we well know. The famous Maulvi Aziz is the former head honcho of the Lal Masjid, the very one who tried to escape from the mosque in a burqa. Maulvi Sahab is currently a serving government servant, having been restored after Mush was made to bite the dust on his Lal Masjid initiative to take it back from Al Qaeda-affiliated jihadis. Apart from all the perks of government service (it’s a mystery what his actual work is), Maulvi Sahab is on the government’s salary roster as the “imam” of the Capital Development Authority.
Another negotiator proposed by the Taliban has sent a discreet message to Gill on the Hill. He has apparently offered to help broker the release from captivity of Gill’s kidnapped son, for a neat sum of money, needless to say. The young man was kidnapped in Multan on the day of the general elections last year and is believed to be in the custody of a group of Taliban who’ve asked his family for a hefty ransom.
