All eight suspects, who were nominated in the suicide case of Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Abdul Karim Shaikh fled from the court premises after their bail applications were rejected by the judge here on Friday. Dr. Harish Jagani, the civil surgeon; Dr. Abdul Malik Nohrio, Dr. Mohan Khatri, Manthar Bheel, Barkat Hingorjo, Section Officer Shafiq Ujjan, Sardar Bheel, and Rajab Kumbhar, who were nominated in the FIR registered on the complaint of Mohammad Saddiq Shaikh at Mithi Police Station against eight suspects, who according to him, were responsible for his death of his father. All suspects, who appeared before the court of Additional Sessions Judge1, Mohammad Fazil Bhoyo to get the permanent bail.
Judge Bohyo rejected the interim bail of all suspects and asked them to surrender to police. The accused fled the courtroom and then escaped from the premises of the district and sessions court without being arrested by police officers.
According to the clips, which went viral on social media, all suspects including the Section Officer of Sindh Health Department, Shafiq Ujjan, Dr Harsish and others could be seen walking away from the court without any attempt by policemen to arrest them.
The lawyers, relatives of the victim and activists strongly condemned the police officers for their reluctance to arrest the accused despite the fact that their bail was rejected. They claimed that the police officers posted in the desert district of Tharparkar were making mockery of the additional judge, who ordered their arrest; he had rejected their pleas for the bail.
Dr. Shaikh after being sexually harassed by a male nurse, Manthar Bheel and then was blackmailed by his fellow doctors and other paramedics, committed suicide a month back. Dr. Shaikh, in his suicide note written to the high-ups of Sindh government and in his voice messages sent to a senior journalist Mumtaz Nohrio, had held all eight persons responsible for 'unnatural' death. Dr. Shaikh's suicide was widely condemned by people from different walks of life and protest rallies were also staged in various cities and towns of the province.
