The recent tweet by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari regarding the proposed 27th amendment has triggered unrest among the political ranks of Sindh. The tweet has drawn condemnation from across the province, with various politicians hailing from nationalist parties calling it an onslaught on Sindh's existence.
The former senator of Pakistan Peoples Party and seasoned politician, Sassui Palijo, claimed that the proposed 27th amendment would render provinces powerless and would end the concept of provincial autonomy, which is against the basic principles of democracy. She further stated that elected representatives must not act as puppets and should resist the proposal of the 27th amendment on the floor of the parliament.
Chairman of Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party, Dr. Qadir Magsi, said that any amendment or plan to destabilize Sindh would face stiff resistance, adding that the proposal of the 27th amendment was a trick to deprive Sindh of its centuries-old status. "This move of the federal government would prove futile," he claimed.
Advocate Vasand Thari, the provincial Chairman of Qaumi Awami Tahreek, mentioned that it would be an undemocratic amendment that would fade the importance of the 18th amendment. He further stated that, in accordance with the vision of their leader, the late Rasool Bux Palijo, they would be at the forefront to safeguard provincial autonomy.
The President of Karachi Bar Association and recently elected member of Sindh Bar Council, Amir Nawaz Waraich, while talking to local reporters in Thatta the other day, urged people of Sindh to stand by the legal fraternity so that their fundamental and constitutional rights could be protected.
