Of wigs and makeup artists

A distressed make-over artist working for a television channel reported an experience when she was nearly done in by a wig. Yes, dear reader, done in by one of the most famous wigs in the country. She said she was “puffing” the glowing visage of Sheeda Tully before a talk show — “puffing” meaning applying a light base of foundation make-up to minimise sweat and shine beneath the glare of lights. When she tackled his “hair”, she was unaware of the fact that the gent has a hairpiece covering his bald pate. So, she got to work with her comb with customary gusto. The comb got stuck in the wiring of the hairpiece and was extricated with difficulty, because Sheeda Tully didn’t want to take off his wig and hand it over to the lady. There was much fuming and fretting, during which the make-over artist felt she might’ve lost her job. Finally, with great relief, the comb was extricated and the wig stayed in place.

Making ripples

Two scions of Pakistan’s leading political dynasties are making ripples. One son is critical of the way the provincial government is run, with particular reference to his tante’s all-enveloping writ. They say he’s made his displeasure known. The other son has been accused, to his father’s face we hear, of “taking gratification without delivery” — and by none other than the booming voice that Lords it over us all the way from Westminster.

No takers

The British carer of the Quaid-e-Qiwam was scared out of her wits when the police raided his London residence earlier this year. She’s the Q-e-Q’s constant nurse and decided to go to the tabloids to try and sell the story of the raid. There were no takers.
