Blast from the past


Since it’s open season on the corrupt, it would do us all good to remember this blast from the past. One fine evening over dinner and refreshments in Lahore, more than a decade ago, the then ruler of this poor, benighted country, that benign dictator Mush exchanged pleasantries with his host. The latter was the top khaki in Lahore and was also known as Zarrar Zameen. “I hope you won’t get Jinnah House transferred to your name, ha ha”, he is reported to have said light heartedly to his host.

A famous young actor, a beautiful young woman, plucked up the courage to argue about a film with her male colleagues. The film in question was an Indian flick that has been banned in Banistan because it was about the “taking out” of some of our “holy warriors” by an incensed Saif Ali Khan. The young woman actor tweeted that the film shouldn’t have been banned because everyone needs freedom of information and the right to make up their own minds. She was promptly heaped with abuse and threats, especially from showbiz people affiliated to The Great Khan’s horde, to the extent that she felt the need to leave the country.

Dancing to their tune?


Our mole in the corridors of power says Mr Bean is on auto-pilot and The Man of Steel had no idea that Hubby’s best friend was going to be hauled up. In a recent conversation between the two, The Man apparently asked Mr Bean why he hadn’t been taken into confidence. Mr Bean’s refrain was that he too had no idea but that, they say, is far from the truth. Is Mr Bean dancing to someone’s else’s tune?
