Gang of four
The buzz in Isloo is that four bureaucrats have The Man of Steel’s ear to the exclusion of saner council, particularly of a political nature. This has caused a lot of heartburn amongst The Man’s cabinet and even amongst his neglected, talented back-benchers.
Marital row
A woman MPA from Sindh was taken by her husband to Hubby’s sister’s door and told in no uncertain terms, to resign. The woman MPA resisted, but eventually signed on the dotted line. Later, she complained to young Bill and asked him to intercede. Bill had an impartial enquiry conducted and it transpired that the woman had agreed with her husband, a government official, that she would fight elections in his stead and be content to be a dummy parliamentarian. She contested and won a Sindh provincial assembly seat. To begin with, she was suitably docile, leaving the politicking to her husband even though he is a government official. But things began to change when Madam MPA began to enjoy her power. Matters came to a head when she put forward a name for appointment as the local TMO, with her husband supporting another gent. Then came the marital row, with her husband asking Madam MPA to resign. When she refused, he took her to Hubby’s sister and there got her to throw in the towel.
How refreshing!
When an American friend emailed the new president of Afghanistan, Ashraf Ghani Ahmedzai, to congratulate him, the president replied a day later. Usually, the president’s email turnaround time is a few hours. In his reply the president apologized for his “tardy” response but said that the internet was down in Kabul’s presidential palace and it had taken a day to restore it. How refreshing, to have educated, tech savvy, well-mannered leaders!
