Bijli bill & other woes
Given that our constitutional monarch cannot afford to pay his bijli bill, should his lifestyle not be more austere? We hear the great house consumes Rs 22 crore per month, has 2400 employees, and two helicopters at its constant disposal. There is also one aeroplane in the stable which costs Rs 2 crore per month. State guest houses everywhere are at the gent’s disposal. Isn’t this a tad too much, given that the constitutional monarch has only a ceremonial role?
Living in fear
The once beloved mayor of Karachi has now relocated to a Gulf Emirate where he’s working for a private real estate developer. But the fear factor hasn’t evaporated. Readers will recall that he fell foul of his leader, the Quaid-e-Qiwam and had to flee Karachi. The former mayor goes about in cars with tinted windows, even in the Emirate. He told someone that he knew the “innards of the Movement” and doesn’t want a visit from “the South African boys”.
The inevitable
Tragically, our Judicial system is so weak that there didn’t seem to be a sustainable, legal way of dealing with the man who attacked the chief adjudicator of the Sindh court. So the inevitable came to pass — he happened to get involved in a police encounter in which he lost his life.
