Proud of our boys
When the British Prime Minister came to watch the Pakistan vs England Test Match at Lords Cricket Ground, she was struck by the performance of our team, and deeply impressed by the young men who went on to win the Test. She is said to have remarked that the British spend millions on their team’s education, physical training, world-class coaching and even their mental health in order to make them fit for the nerve-rackingly competitive game. She then remarked in awestruck tones that she wondered at the Pakistani team and where they get their inspiring talent from. She was told that the team is assembled from young men across Pakistan who are from amongst the people, who grow up playing in the most adverse circumstances but stay the course because they are fired by their passion for the game. And then the Pakistan Super League came as a godsend for the most talented amongst them, burnishing their talent and grooming them for victory in the field.
Infighting
The recent fracas about the caretaker Chief Minister of the Punjab is basically a reflection of the infighting going on in The Great Khan’s horde. The nominee was an above board candidate, and would have striven to be neutral in the execution of his duties but it was not to be. His nomination was okayed by The Khan after consultations, and just because one group seemed keener on the gent, the other went for the jugular and undid a perfectly reasonable decision.
Then there’s the matter of turncoats from other parties, flocking to The Khan’s horde because it is perceived to be at an advantage. The “ideological” group is on the verge of becoming openly critical about these opportunists and a big demo is planned at the gates of Bunny Gala.
Whatever happens, things are beginning to look more and more farcical.
