A convoy carrying Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kech, Bashir Ahmed Baloch, was targeted in Turbat on Monday when a remote-controlled explosive device detonated along Press Club Road. The device, reportedly placed on a motorcycle parked near the roadside, exploded as the official convoy passed by.
The blast caused significant damage to one of the vehicles, injuring five personnel from the Levies Force and one civilian. All six injured individuals, including the Levies constables, were shifted to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment. DC Bashir Ahmed Baloch escaped unharmed.
Speaking to The Friday Times, SP Kech Zohaib Mohsin and SHO Abdul Ghaffar confirmed the incident and stated that security forces had cordoned off the area. They added that a detailed investigation has been launched to determine those responsible.
Turbat, situated in southwestern Balochistan near the border with Iran, has experienced periodic attacks on security personnel and government officials amid ongoing unrest in the region. This latest incident underscores the persistent security challenges in Kech district, where militant groups have carried out similar attacks in the past.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the bombing. Meanwhile, security has been intensified across key routes and government installations, and authorities have pledged to strengthen protective measures for public officials and civilians in the area.
