Policeman Martyred, Another Injured In Sujawal Encounter

SUJAWAL: A policeman was martyred and another sustained critical injuries in an encounter with armed miscreants near village Majeed Otho, within the limits of Chuhar Jamali police station, on Friday morning.

According to a spokesman for the SSP office Sujawal, police received a tip-off regarding the presence of armed miscreants in village Majeed Otho. Acting on the information, the police team launched an operation, which led to an exchange of fire between the police and the miscreants. As a result, two constables, Wajid Somro and Ghulam Mustafa Chawro, were critically injured.

The injured personnel were initially shifted to the Basic Health Unit Chuhar Jamali and later referred to Civil Hospital Thatta for further treatment. Constable Wajid Somro, however, succumbed to his wounds at the hospital.

Senior Superintendent of Police Sujawal, Alina Rajpar, reached Civil Hospital Thatta shortly after the incident. She expressed deep grief over the martyrdom of Constable Wajid Somro and inquired about the condition of the injured policeman, who was reported to be stable.

Speaking on the occasion, the SSP said the sacrifice of the martyred cop would not go in vain. She added that an operation was underway against the miscreants and that police had laid siege to the village.

Following medico-legal formalities, the body of the deceased constable was taken to his ancestral village, Imam Bux Somro, near Daro town, for burial.
