The military on Monday identified the availability of modern weapons, sanctuary and liberty of movement for terrorists to mount cross-border attacks on Pakistan via Afghanistan as the major threat to national security.
The huddle of top military commanders from the army also resolved back the government's economic revival plan.
A statement issued by the army's media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), stated that the corps commanders, the leaders of all the major military battalions, gathered at the army's headquarters in Rawalpindi. The meeting was chaired by Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir.
The military commanders were briefed in detail about the prevailing internal security environment, especially in the aftermath of recent incidents, including the terror attack on a garrison in Zhob and the emerging security situation elsewhere in the country.
"The sanctuaries and liberty of action available to the terrorists of proscribed Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP) and other groups of that ilk in a neighbouring country and availability of latest weapons to the terrorists were noted as major reasons impacting the security of Pakistan," the statement said.
The statement follows a similar statements made by the army chief and Federal Defence Minister Khawaja Asif a few days ago in the aftermath of the Zhob attack wherein both pointed fingers at Kabul for failing to uphold its promises to prevent Afghan soil from being used against other countries.

In this regard, the commanders also deliberated in detail upon the operational preparedness and training aspects of the military, especially in the wake of the new threat.
"Objective training remains the hallmark of our professionalism, and we must always remain prepared to guard against any threat to our national security," said COAS Gen Munir.
The commanders also paid rich tribute to the supreme sacrifices persistently being offered by valiant soldiers to defend their motherland against terrorists.
Economic support
The forum was also apprised about the government's plan to revive the economy and the army's planned role in uplifting agriculture, information technology, mines and minerals and defence production sectors under the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC).

The participants vowed to fully support the strategic initiatives planned by the government for the revival of the economy by providing all possible technical and management support for the overall good of the people of Pakistan.
