PPP Distances Itself From Calls For CJ Bandial's Resignation
A day after Bilawal Bhutto asked Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial to resign from his post, the party's leadership has distanced itself from the demand, saying the PPP chairman didn't endorse PML-N's stance on the matter.

The Express Tribune quoted senior party leader Qamar Zaman Kaira as saying that they are a coalition partner of the ruling party but they have their independent position on various issues.

“In some instances, all allied parties share the same opinion while in others, they have their differences,” he said.

The PPP, he maintained, does not share the same opinion as the PML-N's but, “we are not opposing it either”.

Kaira also made it clear that the party isn't in full agreement with the PML-N on the reference against judges.

“We want to consult with other parties in the alliance to form a consensus on these issues,” he remarked.

According to him, formulating a joint opinion on the matter would be in the best interest of the government.

On Friday, Bilawal asked CJ Bandial to step down, after PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif made a similar demand.

“With Justice Minallah’s note, we now have four justices on record. It is clear the CJs opinion is the minority judgement,” Bilawal said in a Twitter post.

“The CJP & SC must act immediately to undo this unconstitutional bench fixing. This is only way the dignity of the supreme court can be resorted.”

The PPP chief went on to add that “the three-member decision is not worth the paper it is written on. If the CJP cannot get his court in order and remedy this mockery of justice then perhaps he should allow someone else to take the responsibility of CJP.”

On April 4, the Supreme Court declared the ECP’s decision regarding the postponement of elections in Punjab till October as null and void.

In its ruling, the top court deemed the decision to hold elections on October 8 “unconstitutional” and mandated that they take place on May 14.
