A woman who was subjected to a brutal rape after being drugged in Sukkur two months ago, succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday.

As per details provided by the local police, the deceased and her mother-in-law were sexually molested after being drugged by four men who barged into their house in Jacobabad on Jan 15.

The mother-in-law, an elderly lady, had died a week after the tragic incident police said, adding that the relatives had urged them not to disclose the names of the victim to the media.

According to SSP Jacobabad, an FIR was lodged against four suspects under Section 376 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal code, and one of them was identified as Tekhan aka Takan Golo, a close relative of the victims.

The officer added that taking advantage of affiliation with the family, the suspect committed the offence as part of a plan.

“The main suspect is under police custody,” the SSP maintained.

Last month, an elderly man in Gharo sexually assaulted a 23-year-old mentally-challenged woman. He later confessed to his crime.

The woman, identified as H*, was assaulted within the limits of the Gharo police station. Police said Raza Khaskheli, a 65-year-old man, was arrested after an FIR was lodged by the victim’s father under Section 376 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The accused, police maintained, lived near the house of the victim, and had been suffering from a mental disorder since her childhood and couldn’t speak. She was alone when the incident took place.

Police also quoted the suspect as accusing the woman of ‘luring him’ to commit the vile act, and that he ‘couldn’t control himself despite his efforts.’

According to a report issued by Sahil, an NGO, more than 10,000 cases of rape have been reported from across the country during the period of 2019 to 2022.
