PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif has spoken up on the Zaman Park clashes amid attempts to arrest PTI chief Imran Khan, saying arrests are ‘not for the coward’.

“Imran Khan has created a circus for fear of arrest,” Nawaz said on Twitter. “If it was someone with even a little bit of bravery or dignity, he would have died of shame.”

Such a man would have left politics, than to distort [their character] with cowardice or indignity, he added.

He also shared a piece of poetry towards the conclusion of his post, translating to “it is better to die with dignity than to live unhonourably.”

Separately, PML-N Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz said that it is thugs and thieves who are afraid of arrest, not leaders.

Citing her father’s example, Maryam said he never used his workers as a shield to protect himself, and he surrendered for an arrest.

She went on to add that Imran cites threats to his life when he is to appear in court, but has no threats as he leads a rally in Lahore.

Meanwhile, fresh police contingents have arrived amid continued clashes between the party’s workers and police.

Some reports in the media suggest that the new forces is equipped with batons and riot gear, to repel protesters preventing the arrest.

Several PTI workers and police personnel have suffered injuries in the skirmishes that don’t seem to be ending any time soon.

Rangers surround residence

Rangers personnel have surrounded the residence, as some 200 people are reportedly inside, many of them are said to be armed.

Authorities are monitoring the Zaman Park residence via helicopter ahead of the possible arrest of the former premier.

Police have used water cannons to disperse the party’s workers as they moved ahead in their quest to arrest Imran.

Who will head the PTI next?

Meanwhile, Imran has arranged for an alternate leadership to run the party’s affairs after his imminent arrest.

In case he is apprehended, a six-member emergency committee will look after the affairs of the party.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Saifullah Khan Niazi, Azam Swati, Aijaz Chaudhry, Murad Saeed, and Ali Amin Gandapur will be a part of the emergency committee.
