Supreme Court of Pakistan has admitted petitions seeking a probe into Imran Khan’s cipher controversy, with Justice Qazi Faez Isa as the judge to lead the proceedings.

The learned judge will hear the in-chamber appeals on February 22 (Wednesday), Express News reported.

Earlier, Justice Sardar Tariq Masood has recused himself from hearing the appeals, and sent them back to the Chief Justice of Pakistan.

The appeals were earlier filed in the top court by Advocate Zulfiqar Bhutta, Syed Tariq Badar, and Naeem-ul-Hasan.

In a shocking statement nearly a week ago, PTI chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan said that it had been confirmed that the United States was not behind his ouster.

While addressing a live audience from his residence in Lahore via video link, he said the former army chief Gen (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa had admitted to toppling his government.

He claimed that then premier Nawaz Sharif had proposed some conditions including his disqualification and imprisonment.

He flayed Nawaz for escaping from the polls after giving a narrative of ‘Vote Ko Izzat Do’, adding that the current rulers were causing harm to the country just to gain personal benefits. He accused them of using all options to stop him from coming to power again.

Imran said he was astonished after hearing the former army chief’s confessions regarding the toppling of the PTI government. He said that the former army chief was a ‘super king’ as he had ‘superior powers’.

He said, “The National Accountability Bureau was being controlled by then-COAS during his tenure, and I was the one who was facing all sorts of criticism.”

The PTI chief alleged that the rulers were against an independent judiciary, urging people to be prepared to foil their attempts aimed at suppressing the rule of law.

While highlighting the significance of the judiciary, he said that the entire nation was optimistic that the judiciary will play its role in protecting the Constitution. “The country will suffer badly if wrong decisions are made,” he warned.
