Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan’s lawyer, Azhar Siddique, has said that his client is willing to be arrested but doctors are not giving permission due to health issues.
While speaking to journalists at Zaman Park, advocate Azhar Siddique said that Imran Khan will definitely appear before the court after getting security clearance from the police IG.
On the occasion, PTI leader Shibli Faraz said that police have the intention to arrest Imran Khan, adding that "we respect the law but will not allow the arrest of our leader (Imran Khan)."
It is pertinent to mention here that, yesterday, a two-member bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) rejected Imran Khan’s protective bail plea for non-appearance in the case of blocking the Srinagar highway and attacking police personnel.
A case of the attack on the police was registered against the PTI chairman on October 21, 2022, in Islamabad’s Sangjani police station.
During the hearing, Imran Khan’s lawyer, Azhar Siddique, told the court that doctors have advised Khan not to walk, to which Justice Ali Baqir Najafi remarked that Khan should come to court in a wheelchair.
Azhar Siddique further said that Khan’s life is in danger, but still, if the court wants, Khan will appear before the court.
However, the LHC judge replied, “Law is equal for everyone” and that it was imperative for the accused to appear in court for bail.
It is pertinent to mention here that an ATC in Islamabad had canceled the PTI chairman’s bail in the case. The court rejected Imran’s plea seeking an exemption from personal appearance and directed him to appear before the court till 1:30pm. Upon his failure to appear before the ATC, the court canceled his bail.
In a separate hearing, Islamabad High Court restrained a banking court from canceling Imran’s bail and granted him relief until Feb 22. The decision was issued by Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani and Justice Tariq Mehmood in the prohibited funding case.
