Chitral Public Meeting Slams Brutal Killing Of Woman In Lower Dir
A protest meeting was held in Chitral on Tuesday against the recent brutal murder of a woman in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Lower Dir district.

The consultation took place under the auspices of Tehreek Tahafuz Chitral, presided over by Alhaj Eid-ul- Hussain.

Yasmin Bibi, 30, was killed with an axe in Rabat. She had moved to the area after getting married. She has left four young children behind.

Addressing the meeting, the speakers lamented the fact that a daughter of Chitral had to undergo such brutality, and was killed in her own home.

The participants thanked Rabat police for arresting the accused in a timely manner. They appealed to theChief Justice of Peshawar High Court to give severe punishment to the murderer so as to set an example for others.

On the occasion, some political leaders expressed concerns on the acquittal of SSP Rao Anwar of Karachi in the Naqeebullah Mehsud murder case.

Former president of Trade Union, Shabbir Ahmed, Sharif Hussain, Naeem Anjum, President of Awami National Party Chitral, Sifat Zareen, leader of PML-N, Maulana Israruddin Al-Hilal, Noor Ahmad, and members of the civil society attended the public meeting.

Earlier, Khal police told The Friday Times that an FIR of the murder had been filed with the statement of the victim.

After her death, Section 302 (premeditated murder) was added to the report against the accused. Police also claimed to have arrested one, Khan Bahadar who they said belonged to neighbouring Afghanistan.

The targeting of women in the name of honour has increased in the province. A few days back, a 17-year-old girl, Salma was killed in Sardaryab area of Charsadda when her video was posted on social media by the accuser.

In Swat, an NGO ‘Awakening’ has been documenting the cases of domestic violence, honor killings, sexual assault, and suicide, since 2012.

A report prepared by the organisation states that 229 people were killed in the name of honour over the past seven years. The residents of the area await further action against the accused in a prompt manner.
