K-pop Popularity In Pakistan Fuels Demand For Merchandise
Korean pop isn't entirely new to the Pakistani music scene, whether it is the tunes played on the FM radio channels or its overall familiarity among the youth.

We all remember the recent incidents of how two 'missing' teenage girls of Karachi were found in Lahore, after they came up with a plan to travel to South Korea to meet members of the BTS.

But lately, the genre seems to be gaining more popularity, evident from at least two Instagram accounts.

This might as well be an indication that there is now a growing economic aspect to the whole scenario.

There are at least two fully-functional Instagram accounts where either the K-pop merchandise is being sold, of course unofficially, or it is a platform to bring the fans of the music together.

The first of these goes with the name of 'K-pop Pakistan Shop' with has no less than 27,000 followers. It offers the products on cash across the country, with a return/exchange policy.

The Insta handle also has more than 1,000 customer reviews, pointing at the active participation and fan following.

The second, KCon Pakistan, plays the role of a community, providing people with meet-up opportunities and operating as a source of information on Korean pop.

Besides, it's not just Korean music that's gaining popularity in Pakistan; it is also the dramas that people like to watch here.

Korean play Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha revolves around the perceived idea of success, fame, and money.

The feel-good, relaxing, and healing play goes on with the couple, the main characters, discovering the real meaning behind life and community, as reported earlier by Naya Daur Lifestyle.

With all being said, it may be safe to say that the popularity for Korean pop and dramas may continue to grow at home and eventually challenge the prospects for established players in the industry.
